"Recently a relative of mine was admitted to hospital for investigations and he also experienced a sudden loss of movement in his leg. When we expressed our wishes to the staff to bring the relative to the shower and needed a wheelchair to transport him, we were provided a mobile commode. This was very disturbing and upsetting. With his impending stay in hospital for a few more days, I knew my relative being a young,active man prior to admission would feel the benefit to his well-being if we had a wheelchair for him. The hospital was unable to provide one for his use. Within two hours of making that phone call , I met Michael at the hospital doors delivering me the hired wheelchair. By having the wheelchair it helped make my relative’s stay in hospital very comfortable and gave them independence. This was appreciated especially when my relative was transferred to a ward that didn’t allow visitors but by having the wheelchair to themselves they were able to go the hospital café themselves to meet visitors.
